Emission's junk

Hurst it wasn't really that bad actually, I made multiple calls to the DMV and I was told everytime. mine was already registered as a regular registration, so all I had to do was fill out the dmv form, show insurance card and pay 100$ ish. no pictures nothing except that.. now my registration is good forever and I don't need inspection or emission so it will never go to any garage other than mine now...lol...

What the "mileage" limitation on it? I may have to look into it again. I remember when I was titling my fiances camaro I got the paperwork for the Classic/Antique and they have like a packet to fill out.

I'm driving mine around with regular registration and I have never gone to get it inspections. I drive by cops all the time without a window sticker. I think they are too busy looking and listening to my car to notice I dont have a sticker. But my luck will run out eventually.

Who did you go through for insurance?

the mileage restriction is.. you can only operate it occasionally. the DMV definition of occasionally is once a week, but it states on their website that you may operate it for occasional work transportation, car shows, club meetings, maintance.. so while I was at the DMV doing my stuff I ask the lady and her response was " honey we are the DMV we don't give a sh#$ how often you drive your car, but a cop will so you better have a different excuse each day...lol" you don't give them mileage or nothing so they have no way of knowing. but im not kidding when I say it was very simple and I never have to do it again...

as for insurance I am in the ARMY so I have USAA they offer a classic insurance but our Camino is far from a show car so I just continued my regular insurance.

as far as classic insurance, I question its worth. my step father had it on his 65 Impala and when he wrecked it they only gave him like 2400$ and his car was 100% original and multiple car show winner! so very nice!!

I know it is a one time registration, but didnt know how easy. And I thought I needed Classic/Antique insurance....I need to go to a different Title agency. They are giving me wrong info I guess. I might go to a different place in a couple weeks.

Know you said you were removing the cats, and smog pump. How about the EGR? I would put a block off plate on that. What kind of carburetor do you have on it? I would put vacuum caps not just a hose with a bolt in it on any hose that went to anything emission. And if there were any switches or anything remove those and put pipe plugs in.

Good luck with your build.

It has the 267 v8 that's why im trying to lighten things up a bit, I don't want to put a 350 in it yet until I see that my son can appreciate what he has. it is all stock including the carb, so just the 2brl. cat's are already gone, smog pump soon

I went straight to the DMV that way I knew it was correctly done.

I understand your caution to see how your son handles the car, before putting a more powerful engine in it. But even with all of the emission equipment removed, the 267 will not be what most would call a real snappy performer. Most of the emission controls do not create any parasitic loss, as stated above, and the EGR can actually be helpful.

I guess maybe I phrased my question wrong, sorry to all.

my main goal is not really to free up horsepower in a turd (which im well aware of. LOL) but rather to clean up the engine bay a little and maybe lose a few pounds in the process. I just thought I would start with emmissions since it is bulky and for me useless cause it doesn't work anyways ( things were missing when we bought the car!)

May be you should just change the intake and carb. That will get rid of alot of the extra crap. There is lots of cheap stuff available new or used that would make it pretty clean. It is a Small Block Chevvy so I believe most everything fits. BTW my stock Canadian 267 gets 28 plus mpg with everything plugged in and it still has the Cat!

For whatever its worth, if you do remove the emission controls, I'd try to hang onto them, rather than throwing them out. Governments can change, laws can be changed, and there may come a time when the car might be required to have the emission controls back on it. Its happened in other jurisdictions, and in some areas, O.E. type emission controls have become rare and valuable. Food for thought anyway.
