Hello to all my enthusiats. I have a question for you all. I recently aquired an engine. It is stamped on the block with 3161 5.0 L G and stamped on the back by the distributor 5A. The heads are 5A also. It came attached with a 350 transmission with a 1500 stall converter. I was told the transmission came with a B&M shift kit installed. This whole package deal came with and alternator, starter, exhaust manifolds eldelbrock intake, power steering pump, crossmember(dual exhaust), original intake manifold, original torq converter. My question is, is this a good engine to tinker around with. I was told the engine had timing chain replaced, high lift cams and lifters also. I hope I didnt get a boat anchor  The engine does have compression and it does turn over manually. Please advise on this set up. Thanks to you all in advance.

Sounds like your typical non-roller 307. Probably not a huge power house and not really worth putting a lot of money into.
However most of the parts that bolt onto a 307 will bolt onto an Olds 350 or 403 later on.
What I'd like to know is how they put more than one camshaft in it. 🙂
