Is it possible to put an engine out of a 2000 chevy express into a cutlass??? It is a 5.7 litre vortech, and i have the whole van just no papers. (someone left it at our shop for like 6 months so it is ours now) Just curious if it would be worth doing when my engine finally kicks the bucket (which buy the sounds of things may be soon)

Yes it is. The challenge of the project will depend on what your final desire is.

no - so you should sell it to me real cheap so I can put it in my grand prix haha. Actually there are quite a few people making kits to put Gen III engines in old iron. You will need mounts, headers, custom hoses, and either a custom harness to retain the stock injection or adapt the current ignition to a carb (and/ or a carb). you will also have to use the trans fromt he van since the bell housings are different.

If it is a 5.7 in a truck chassis, it is a GEN I, not a GEN III. The Express is the last OE application of the GEN I. So, you can put it in with 305 mounts, and use a Vortec intake for a carb.

what would be the easiest way to keep the fuel injection???? I would have the computer and evything from the van as it is complete. It was brought here from the U.S. and went through an inspection which it passed, they took it never got it insured, and then brought it back a couple months ago. It has a huge steam cleaner and stuff in it which is connected to the trans by the looks of things, poosible PTO, never seen under the van yet. Anyway my manager wants it gone ASAP, and told me to hot-wire it and take it. So i will call a tow truck and get it brought here and take the engine and trans.

you need the wiring harness, ecm, tcm (if you use the trans, probably a 4l65e), and a baffled fuel tank with the proper pump. you might need the radio and bcm. GM did things a little weird on some models, where the radio had to be connected for the car to start. it could be in the trunk, but it had to be wired. i don't think that the van's had it, but just in case...
you will need the complete EVAP system to prevent check engine codes.

Wasnt there some link posted in one of these forums on how to put a Corvette engine into a Gbody? That sould explain most of the things you need to do.

if i didin't put in the whole evap system or any o2 sensor and junk would it still work??? my car has no o2 sensor or places to put them even, i don't have any form of air care or anything so cats are no problem here either as i already don't run them

I think you shuld be able to get away with the evap system. You have to run the o2 sensor, that is how the pcm determines the a/f ratio. You should also leave the egr system alone, it does nothing to hurt perfomance and it shouldnt be to hard to hook up. Make sure you plug any vacuum lines and the vent tube from the gas tank for the evap. If you leave the vent tube open the gas might slowly evaporate away. If you are not running cats you will need some sort of o2 sensor simulator to make the pcm think the cat is still there.
