Don't forget to check the 1989 350 engine, to see if you can install a mechanical fuel pump on it.
As MonteOlrac says, if you do alot of driving, the 700r4 is probably the best choice. If you decide to use the 700r4, you may have to modify either the transmission crossmember, or the driveshaft, or possibly both, as the 700r4 is a longer transmission than the 350, by approximately 3".
By the way, its distributor, not disterber.
 
I was reading this later post and was wondering was the 350 you were putting in serpentine belt and if so did you run into any problems? The problem I am running into is that my power steering pump pulley is hitting my gear box. Any help out there would be appreciated.
