hey everyone, the season is finally back, did some work to the 81 over the winter as per some of you recommended I am now rid of that airplane blade plastic flex fan, has been replaced with a therm clutch and aluminum fan, also fixed the stumble and hard starts after it got warm. Turns out the fuel was boiling as the 1406 was being super heated by the intake , and I was getting vapour lock, used a clear filter to help diagnose, (its gone now don't worry). so I put a half inch phenolic spacer. Problem solved, after a recent fairly long cruise me and a buddy went on while we were stopped i put my hand right on the air cleaner and it was barely warm, it used to get to hot to touch within fifteen minutes of starting. I also pulled off the broken a/c compressor and the lines and capped em because its not worth the hassle and I like my windows down anyways. after all that stuff i can't believe how good it runs must have gained an honest 10-20 ponies it also feels a lot easier to rev out. before 4500 rpm was a struggle. It pulls clean and easy to 4800 rpm now. I get a little squeak out of one of the 245's now if i get on it from a stop hahaha. It's also shockingly quieter than it was before. anyways to the matter of plugs, I put a new set of R45ts's in late last year in the car the plugs saw maybe 200 km of driving and two starts over the winter. pulled them a couple days ago and this is what i found. A newish set has been installed in the meantime. (Top left plugs is #1 bottom right is # 8 for ref) what do you guys think ? also note when i was changing the oil a couple weeks ago I noticed the fresh syth oil I put in a month before going away smelt like gas and was pretty dirty.
