Engine wont stay on

Hey all I have a 1982 cutlass supreme with the 3.8 v6. For some reason the engine will not run if I connect the distributor to the engine harness. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Check your idle control motor. They can strip out and allow the engine to stall.

I've tried 2 different carbs on it. The engine will only stay on if the distributor isn't connected to the engine harness. It will not run of it's connected.

Sounds like something screwy in the ecm, a shorted wire in the harness going to the dist. or a bad dist. module. Never run into one like that before be sure to let us know what you find.

I've tried a different ECM, distributor, all the wires going to the distributor looked good.

Also my carburetor doesn't click when the ignition is turned on.
