If you are going to do grinding, welding and painting, an epoxy floor may not make the best sense.
You could consider Race Deck. You could remove it while doing anything that might damage it then re-install at all other times.
I'm thinking about doing this in my prep/paint room. I've had to redo the epoxy in there and can't keep it looking good for all that long.

I have the U-Coat it floor in my shop and have been very pleased with it. It is easy to install, easy to clean and I have spilled almost everything you can think of on it and haven't hurt it. I cut, grind, weld etc. and its held up well.

On of my engineers did his. He and his friend both did on the same weekend so they could share expenses (grinder rental) and help each other.. because it is an intense workout, then a lot of waiting.

The one thing he didn't realize would happen is on humid days, it gets really slick. Concrete absorbs the moisture, but Epoxy coated concrete does not. It is a good thing humid days are pretty rare in Dallas.
That is the truth. On humid days and we have them often I have to keep the shop doors shut or the floor turns into a slip and slide.

For everyone who has done it, does it dry smooooooooth?

I rent a car storage space -- my own numbered parking space in what amounts to a big indoor parking lot -- and it has an epoxy floor. I once had the Mustang parked there long enough that some transmission fluid leaked, it got into some small nooks & crannies in the floor that is very difficult to clean-up ... 2 years later and walking in that area still requires a little bit of extra care.

It could just be a bad install of the epoxy floor ...
Mine is smooth finish. I clean it with a scrub brush and squeegee.

As you can see we differ on the u coat it system and that is the only one I have installed. I will say that what ever system you use make sure that it can handle Hot Tires. I have friends that have used other coatings and the first problem they encountered is the tires picking the coating up off the floor.

This is a bad pic but i did the Rustoleum expoxy sheil pro series with a layer of the clear coat, been on for 3 years with no problems so far. and i have thrown jacks and jack stands and all kinds of tools on it and help up great. I didnt do the best of job and its a tad dirty in the pic. but so far so good.

I bought an Epoxy floor kit from Sam's Club 10 years ago. It needs a good mopping right now, but it has held up well. I have drug jack stands and a floor jack all over it. I screwed up and let some brake fluid sit on a spot over night, It discolored the clear coat but it did not peel.
