They're pretty harmless. Eat mice and aren't venomous. My dumbass pitbull walked over it twice and didn't even see it. Snake didn't even twitch when I threw rocks at it.
More work on the lower pasture. This place was pretty shaggy around the edges but I'm continuing to gain ground. I really need to remember to take before pics. This was the only one I got but it gives you an idea.
This is after about 6 hours of clearing.
Those brush piles are now about 8 feet tall. What I'm trying to accomplish is a clear access for a guy to bring his ditch ripper in and carve a nice straight trench to bypass the poorly thought out existing ditch that meanders through the trees.
Those trees are a problem in and of themselves. A previous owner put in the fencing and then planted the trees along said fences. The result is a tangled mess that will only continue to get worse if I don't correct it. Not a FML, just a lesson in landscape planning.

Pressure washed my front porch. Took a lot longer than I thought it would with my little pressure washer.
Also got the guy over to look at doing the ditch work. While we were walking around down there this thing wandered out of the brush.
I didn't locate any others down there and she was pretty tame so I figure someone dumped her off. Neighbor says it's pretty common. Daughter got her fed and rested and then she went to the shelter.
My brother came to town so we did Idaho stuff. Went riding at Pickle Butte, did some shooting at the range, rode to Silver City.
I should have taken more photos of the ride but just didn't. Round trip was just under 80 miles. My dad was on his quad, my brother on his KTM 250 and I rode the TW. Not sure if we got up any higher but we were to at least 6700 feet. Bikes didn't love it.
Silver City was a mining boom town and there are a few original buildings left. Fires have removed most. Lots of little cabins that get used in the summer months. There is no access in the winter months. The hotel is 140 years old but has rooms to rent. The restaurant usually has pie but they sold out right before we got there.
We ran into a dude there who was using a divining rod to locate and communicate with spirits. That was pretty interesting.

Truly rural living isn't for everyone, it's 10 miles to the closest services where I am, and that's really not very far as rural goes...byproduct of working in the capitol city metro area (80 mile round trip daily)
Wife and kids didn't love it at first, but it is teaching them to think about planning for what they need vs running to the grocery store a mile away daily as they did when we lived in the city. Me, I don't miss the traffic. doorknockers, neighbors mowing at 7 AM and about a hundred other things.

Same here.I left an area I could walk 5 minutes to the grocery store, plus every other store I needed a few minutes away by car. No trip over 15 minutes unless commuting to work out of town. Luckily I got a job near me a few years before I moved to AZ where I put 30 miles a week on my car.
Then moving out here going to a good grocery store was 30 minutes away, trips to Tucson over an hour one way depending on where you had to go. At first I had trouble being in the car so much just to get groceries. It would be a 2-3 hour trip. It was not unusual spending a whole Saturday just getting things we needed where in CT we would be back home in an hour or two.
Like you did with your family we had to get into that mindset of planning those trips to get everything we needed to just get it all in one trip and saving gas by avoiding the trips every weekend.
It is worth the trouble because it did not take me long to enjoy the space, quiet, and plenty of privacy. Back in CT I was in the suburbs, but had a lot of houses in my neighborhood and you could never step outside without a nosey neighbor seeing what you were doing. You just felt like you were always being watched. Here I am on top of a hill, houses spread out, and only 2 close, with one a Relatives home. But spread out enough and plenty of areas on my property I can lay down under the shade trees, take a nap, have a cold beverage, and hardly any noise except the occasional car driving by. I love it!
Thanks, guys. I'm actually not too far from civilization. I can see a few other houses from my place. "Town" is only about 2 miles away and has basic needs covered including post office, DMV, gas, auto parts, and hardware store. Pretty much anything else I would ever need is 20 minutes away.
I do love getting into the surrounding hills. Sadly, I haven't done as much of that as I had planned to. However, I have a weekend planned with some buddies in a couple weeks.
If you're into this sort of thing, there's a pretty nice public shooting range on the other side of the river about 10 minutes away. Most times I've been over there it's only had a couple other guys there.
