Ok so, I have literally no time to go to the track (work all the time). Of course as you all know I have an 84 with the Y 307 that I've tweaked to about 150-155 hp, and the original 2.14:1 gears. What can I expect to run at the track? Pretty soon I'll be running 3.42:1 gears with the same setup, any idea what I'll run then? I'm just looking for an idea of what time I'll run, nothing exact. Thanks.

20@80 Is my guess. No matter how you cut it, it won't be pretty with 150hp and 3500lbs.

Here are some helpful formulas if you want to do the math. They are extremely accurate.

___________
3 / weight
ET = \/ ( ------- ) x (5.825)
hp

or, more simply [ the cubed root of the weight of your car divided by the hp you generate, times 5.825 ]

Should get you within 4% of an actual run.

inversely, if you weigh your car and then do a run at the local drag strip you can alter the formula to figure out exactly how much hp your putting to the wheels. This formula and many more came from a book called AutoMath that I bought at books a million. Once I hook up my scanner I'll try to put them all up on the site.

As I feared the damn html crap f'd up the equation, but just follow what I wrote and its pretty self explanatory.

I was bored so I did the math myself.

ET = approx. 16.645 seconds

at

MPH = approx. 81.88

give or take at 150hp and 3500lbs.

You would be surprised at how much gearing and dire diameter will affect the outcome.

18@80 mph.

17.5@ 85 mph after the swap.

Wow, thanks guys! I didn't even know there was a math fomula to figure it out thats pretty awesome. I like the 16.645 ET the best 😀 .

Since this seems more scientific than I thought, take a stab at what mine "should be".

If you can add a rpm to the hp number, add a torque number and give methe cars weight, I can run it on my computer at work.

assuming your car weighs 3500 pounds,

ET = 12.55 at 108.6mph

given your in 4th gear at 5700 rpm.

I have never tested these formulas, but they come from a reputable source. Developed by a drag racer, Patrick Hale in 1986 for a computer program he designed.
