some guy was talking sh*t to me because i told him that id never heard of a 1987 Cutlass Classic coming with a chevrolet 350 four barrel from the factory. Ever heard of this?

i believe that in 1988 the cutlass supreme was replaced by the cutlass classic that came standard with a 307 olds engine, but never a 350 chev or a classic in 1987,you were right

The only 350 V8s ever offered in a G-body was the 1979-1980 Hurst Olds IIRC, and the Mexican Monte Carlo SS.. that car even had a stick!!

But the 1988 Cutlass Supreme Classic had a smog slow Olds 307.. thats it..

Some of the 9C1 police package Malibus came equipped with 350 Chev engines as well, as were some El Caminos in '78 & '79, but these were special applications.

"Some guy" was full of it. There were NO 350-powered G-body cars in the 1987 model year. Period. The engine code is in the VIN, so it's very easy to prove what engine was in the car from the factory.

they did not come with 350's from the factory, but there have been dealers who will do an engine swap at the dealership.
So I suppose it MIGHT be possible that 1 came from the dealer with a 350 but not from the factory.

Doubt that it would sell on the showroom floor, someone might have paid the dealer just like a mechanic to do this, but I'm not familiar with any dealer who modified and sold a cutlass like that.

I believe a dealer could get a $10,000+ fine back in the day for selling a G-Body off the showroom floor with a 350 (one that wasn't supposed to come with a 350, that is). EPA was pretty strict. I think El Camino's were the only G-Body exempt.

Now a person could buy the car first, then the dealer could install the 350--that's a different story.

I also doubt a dealer would have swapped a 305 for a 350 cause of the emission controls they had on vehicles in those years...car had to achieve set emission standards and putting in a 350 would have voided the certification on that car so I don't think it could have been sold as a new car

I see Brick beat me to it...I have to learn to type faster... 😢
