Hey all,

I am looking for visuals on the exhaust routing for my 81 Olds Cutlass. Here is what the plans are so if I could have some images of what you have done similiar would be great

I am using a Buick 350 so headers are out of the question.
I am using factory manifolds
I plan on using Dynomax SUper Turbo large case mufflers
THe down pipes will be custom made and the header pipe and tail pipe will have to be custom made a bent as well.

I would say to have a custom Y-pipe made ... 2 1/4" - 2 1/2" from the exhaust manifolds into a 3" collector. Then run a full 3" system from the collector in the stock location. Then I would go with a 3" inlet and dual 2 1/2" outlet muffler to finish it off

A true dual exhaust setup with factory manifolds would be pretty much pointless

That is not true at all am I'm suprised anyone could even think that.

The cast iron manifolds are killing the flow. Why install a high flow exhaust system on something that is being choked straight out of the head :?: A Y-pipe and 3" pipe will be more than enough exhaust for a factory manifold setup

Ritter, years ago a GTO had a higher hp rating than a Firebird with the same drivetrain only because the GTO platform had the room to run duels. The Firebird had the muffler tucked in the cavity behind the rear end and no place to run duel mufflers under the body.

well I suggest you try a car out with stock exhaust and then thro some duels on the stock manifolds and tell us what you think...

When I got my Regal 2 years ago, it had a Buick 350 in it with a hollowed out catalytic converter and a single in / single out Flowmaster muffler, 2 1/4" all the way. After I had the 2 1/2" dual exhaust with X-pipe and THRUSH welded mufflers installed, the only thing I noticed was the way it sounded :|

Just because was louder, doesn't mean it was any faster. It's like the ricer effect, they put the loud "turbo" mufflers on them cars and think they are so much faster because they're louder. I honestly don't think it gained any rear wheel horsepower

then there was something else going on. I agree that the manifolds don't flow well but once you open up the exit they will definitely flow better

Would it justify spending the time (or money if the individual couldn't do it themselves) to open up a set of exhaust manifolds :?: Some extensive material removal
