Can you explain this for me. I have friends that sometimes don't know what they're talking about. My main goal as far as for the exhaust is to give out the most power it can. How big or small of pipe (in.) would do that?

2-1/2" exhaust is a good size to make power for a near stock to a mild build and then some, so I would say you are probably good at the size you are.
I built my exhaust for my 565 cubic inches of big block with a 300 horse nitrous kit.
 
Bigger is not always better with exhaust.

A very basic rule is one inch per 100 horsepower

Great, looks like I am going to need bigger exhaust for my new engine.

You might want to check with a local muffler shop shop does custom work so see what price they could do the for. I got my 2.5 SS duel system for a good price and it's still in good shape 4 years later.
