:wtf: i Just bought a whole cluster set for my 81 GP with tach for WAAAY less then that. Try hitting up the salvage yards i have come across two in who knows long of hunting for parts for my Grand Prix's. I don't know how rare these are BUT I did come across a 81 Lemans with the silver faced guages but they had idiot lights instead of the needle guages :| I have lusting for a set of these gauges for my 85. If anybody is interested in these pm me before the car gets crushed..

wow thats a little much lol . Would that still be considered NOS its in a AC box so it a replacment part . I Have run into this selling F-body parts "purists" want a GM logo even thought AC is the same . Anyways Ive looked in the salvage yards in my area and when the price of scrap was up all the full frame cars went bye bye plus living in the northeast they salt the piss outta the roads and all these cars rotted to the ground . Sucks to find parts but makes it exciting when you find a survivor. Kinda scary when you find a mint GP or regal in a barn and you act like its a 69 RSss convertible big block camaro with AC . its just makes for good storys to tell our grand kids when they are searching for 90's hondas and acuras in 20 years

You can use a cluster out of a V6 car too. The tachs are the same. See in the picture where that white pin is near the bottom, with the empty square hole next to it? Put the pin in one hole and it calibrates the tach for a V8, the other hole is for the V6. .

Also, you really need the entire cluster assembly, not just the tach unit itself. As I recall, both the main housing and the plastic lense are different between the tach and clock clusters (for example, no hole for the clock adjustement knob on the lense for tach clusters), along with the printed circuit board on the back of the cluster

Really?! i wish i would have known that when i found one for my 85. I just pulled the tach and didn't even think about the lens and was under the impression the circuit boards were the same. :?

Yea man hit salvage yards if you can, some of them dont know what they are worth these days. I got a tach cluster complete out of an 87 elky for $30 in a local yard. That thing is worth $150 to 200 on the ebay market, but its going in my wagon fa sho.

So is the printed circuit needed or can i adapt my original one?

Thanks for the info DSM . Makes it a bit easyer when searching for a cluster . So the printed circuit is also different ? Has anyone tryed taking a factory tach out of another GM car . I know the monte tach and cutlass tachs are smaller . I thought maybe a 70-81 fbody or 73-87 GM truck , they are ruffly the same size just havent had the time to take a couple apart and really investigate .I wish i has a old GM parts book . My hollinder program at work doesnt break down individual guages just speedos :?:

they are 5" tachs and I don't know any other G body other than pontiac who used rthem. They are hard to come by so I modified the plastic casing and installed a 5" VDO tach in it's place.
