Jeez. You guys are aware that Batwoman has been around as a DC character since 1956. But ZOMG lets not make a TV show with that bc some BS about a PC snowflake agenda. Spare me. 🙄 Not everything is about politics. DC needs all the help they can get if they think they're going to compete with the big D. (pun intended.)

Bond? Yeah, I'd rather not see that happen either. Bond is what he is, and needs to stay that way. Create a new character, hell give Moneypenny 00 status and run with it. I'd watch that. Make Bond a total chauvinist D-bag (which really wouldn't be much of a stretch) and bounce it off that.

I'm intrigued that whenever somebody does something like this its "omg the agenda" which is one thing, raking in the bucks. Old white dudes watching wheel of fortune and NCIS reruns aren't their target audience, so just chill. Nobody's going to lose an eye or anything.

Bond is not important to me. But now they are screwing with BATMAN people! BATMAN!!! Is now Batwoman. Are you freaking kidding me?!? I don't care if she rides a fast bike, or wears a RAMONES T-shirt. It is supposed to be BAT....MAN!!!!!

Meh. Her character has been around for well over a decade, not some overnight virtue signalling BS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batwoman

I am not a JB die-hard fan, but I do enjoy the movie series for the most part. Diamonds Are Forever was on last night so I watched it. Hadn't seen it in a long time. There is always the over-the-top shenanigans going on during the movie, but it is most always entertaining. Which is what spy movies should be. I thought of this thread and tried to envision if a woman was in the lead role, how would that change the movie? In some regards, not at all. But in other situations, like when 007 tries to schmooze Bambi and Thumper, who literally kicks him all over the house before he gets the best of them in the pool- I tried to imagine if a woman was substituted getting beat to crap by two guys and her overpowering both of them. Would that even work? Or Jill St. John's character, Tiffany; where would she be later without that spotlight that boosted her career? Being a "Bond Girl" has its advantages. I could be wrong, but JB fans are mostly dudes. So I believe a "Bond Dude" would go over flat.

In the end, it's all about entertainment value and escapism. Just have to push that "I Believe" button every now and again. I may be wrong here, but JB movies have been around for going on 60 years soon. No other movie icon series that I can think of can boast that. Doesn't mean they were all great movies, though. Wait, I take that back. I think the Godzilla franchise is oldest that is still pumping out movies or planning to. (Sorry, it is not Fast and Furious- it is only 18) 🙂

Why mess with the basic format that has worked for so long? Spin offs and additional characters can be tolerated, but don't mess with 007. Hollyweird may think they'll make buku bucks off of trying it, but I predict if they do, they'll lose fans and money fast if they do.

Agenda? Well most people seem to agree that there is....95% according to the poll.

Please, let's not get way off on a tangent here and get the thread locked down. The focus was basically taking an iconic movie character that's basically been enjoyed virtually "AS IS" by more than one generation for over the last half century and then someone simply starts to begin "reimangining" it. What would happen to the franchise?

Heck, it's not even been confirmed yet they'll have a female 007 or not. It's hard to say no to the idea without sounding like a sexist/racist/whatever-ist, but it's very much like Cap'n Crunch. There's something they did with it that has changed since I was a kid to make it taste different now than it once did. For one thing, it's not quite as rock-hard as the original, so I guess that's good, but regardless. Don't mess with a good thing. Just stop. Be more imaginative.

Then you have to ask, if 007 were ORIGINALLY a female and still as much as a successful franchise, would swapping up to have 007 as a male may seem just as absurd and nearly unthinkable?

I still wish I had my 007 lunchbox in mint condition I carried to school in the 3rd grade. I was a kid then, who knew? I remember it had him driving his Aston with Odd Job trying to shoot him, something of that sort. And Sean Connery's big ol' cartoon head on the end of the box. There was a submarine thing on the Thermos inside. Used to beat those lunch boxes up pretty good back then.
