aluminum welding is expensive I have a guy that does my aluminum welding he used to work in exhaust then went to industrial, but even at 60% of what a shop would charge it'd still be expensive since its such a thin sheet and large surface area. Trying to justify this cost difference is the main thing. Could build a badass perfect aluminum hood for 300$ but then why not just buy the fiberglass one. Plus the .020/.025 " aluminum sheets are going to get nasty and dented over time and I can just switch them out if they're riveted or screwed in.
I always liked the look of rivets, and its a much cleaner install on both sides but don't really know how the screws would look. Maybe I'll buy some of those screws and do a sample of them and rivets next to eachother see which one i like better
