I was wanting to run a filtered cap on my oil fill tube and I wondering if that would hurt anything? I run across one and thought it would look good on my motor.

works fine as long as your valve covers are baffled

My fill tube isnt on my valve covers it is up on front of the motor. Shouldn't make no difference should it?

it won't hurt but it is against emission laws to vent crankcase fumes to the atmosphere

It also allows more moisture into your crankcase (blocksweat) which forms crankcase gunk and breaks your oil down quicker. It is why WW2 tanks ditiched open breathers in favor of PCV for a closed venting system. PCV is a good low emissions system that is an actual improvement over open venting and is proven on the battlefield. Why downgrade?

I had no clue it led to more gunk being built up. I don't wanna do something that is gonna end up hurting my motor.

you are incorrect about reason why the tanks were fitted with a pcv.....many cars had open systems well after WWII and race cars have open breathers...

"During World War II a different type of crankcase ventilation had to be invented to allow tank engines to operate during deep fording operations, where the normal draft tube ventilator would have allowed water to enter the crankcase and destroy the engine.[4] The PCV system and its control valve were invented to meet this need, but no need for it on automobiles was recognized."
