Finally got my slicks - UPDATE

Your et and mph don't seem to be far off. I don't think the slicks are going to knock off a second. Back when my GN was brand new I went to the track for the first time and after a couple smokey over ancious (sp?) runs she ran 13.96 13.98 & 14.00 all at 98mph. Seems pretty close to what you are running. I guess that was with stock skinny butt Eagle GTs but anyway a full second might be a bit optimistic based on your mph. Kind of brings back memories. That was the first time I had ever been to a dragstrip I had no idea i was going to get pushed into running and the car was box stock. Man that was 22 years ago and I still haven't been able to shake drag raceing out of my blood. 🙂 Speaking of traction though a few summers later after some tuneing and minor mods i was running 13.4s and a buddy borrowed me his then hot off the press drag radials and I immediately went to 12.7s with no other changes. I did not know how much time I was loseing on the line. At the next tire change I went to drag radials (as it was a regular driver) and have never went back. You will love the slicks just don't try to pedal her home on wet roads or fly around an on/off ramp and you will be good. Well and watch the cops. Have fun.

You're right,
I definetly won't shave a second at Luskville. I hope to get into the 13.5s with these slicks. But I figure, I can hit 13.3 to 13.2 if I was at a nicer track, like in Shannonville Ontario... maybe I should make the trip out :S

And I definetly don't plan to drive on these slicks. Cops are quite thorough around here. The slicks will be hauled and put on at the track...

Wish I had nicer wheels, but living on student budget, could only afford these...

Have you applied for OSAP? I'm going to be using some of that Stephen Harper money to be putting into my Regal lol.

Haha, OSAP did pay for a bit of this car last year... But no, I haven't applied, I just graduated and am looking to start working

That's great that you've graduated. I guess you can thank me for contributing to our tax system that also paid for some of your car too lol. I'm hoping OSAP can help me upgrade to some headers and a dual setup next year hahaha.

Hey Guys,
so this post has been a long time coming now, sorry for the delay...

I finally got my slicks out to the track on a beautiful Saturday morning, Sep 19th. My buddy was reluctant to bring his 500rwhp 468 BBO 69Cutlass, but I dragged him out too for some competition. He's got a built muncie, with 3.08gears, and he's breaking it loose in 4th, on a preped track!
--- he only ran twice that day... p*ssy

It was the 2nd-last weekend at the track, with over a 100cars. Even the Ottawa Buick crew was out, almost in full force, with their buddy Charlie and his beautiful 401 AMC AMX Javelin. (best of 12.9et at 103mph that day)

I started with a sturdy 3/4 throttle run, with some spin on the slicks, posting a good 13.7 at 99mph, already better than my best ever 13.8 without slicks. The day was looking good. I eventually worked up to a 13.5 at 100mph, when the day started to get gloomy.

Our Buick friend, running a gorgeous 69 Skylark, at 12.4et 105mph, spat his driveshaft. Then another Buick, 1971 Stage 1 and muncie, running 12.8et 104mph, blew a head gasket.

We shook off the bad vibes, and decided to keep it going. A few minutes later, I decided to go for my last run, using slow motion on my buddy's camera, to show you guys some slicks action off the line. My line up was messy, as they screwed up the tree, and I launched hard as the yellow flashed. A split second in, came the sound that all rodders fear, crunching engine parts!

I was able to limp it off the track, with the engine caughing and weesing. The damage could have been much worse. In the end, it was only a couple of pushrods. The valves were very under-lashed, and so explains my low mphs, bogging, and general power loss problems. I pulled the two destroyed rods, and drove her home on 7 cylinders :? , with only some idling issues. I got lucky, as only one of the lifters unseated on the drive home, with no damage, and I was able to fish it back in.

My apologies to the delay of this post, as I had to leave for Haiti on a work trip a few days after. I only got the car running again recently, as the parts didn't come in until I got back. I will post the pictures and videos once I get them from my buddy's camera.

Stay tuned,
cheers,

nice, i would paint the rims black though, imo. you will like them at the track for sure.

I agree, would make a world of difference painted black.

Guh... nice flippin' car man.

I had an 84 Grand Prix that was absolutely perfect stolen when I was in college. Your car looks just like it 🙁 😳
