Hey everyone, brand new here, and brand new to the whole community.

A little car background for me, I had a 1994 Grand Prix as my first car, knew nothing about cars and it ended up blowing the head gasket.
Next I got a 1990 Miata about three years ago, and have learned everything about working on the car since then, and it's my current daily driver.

Now to the fun part, two days ago I decided to go out and buy a 1987 Monte Carlo LS.

I figure I have my work cut out for me, but it seems to be in fair shape.

I look forward to being part of the American car world, and hope the community is as friendly and helpful as the miata community has been!

Thanks,
PowerSet

Welcome Powerset! The American car world is a great world to be a part of, but that's just a strongly-held opinion of mine. 😉 What are your plans for the car? What makes you say you have your work cut out for you?

It's definitely a world I've always wanted to be in. My father has a radical custom 37 ford panel delivery with a smallblock 350 in it, and I grew up loving 60s mustangs etc. but have decided that the most important thing is that american V8 noise.

I plan on having the car as a "backup"(to make is sound more reasonable) I have alot of things I want to do to the miata, but it's my only car at the moment so it's tough to work on knowing I need to use it for work the next day.
I ultimately want a nice big comfortable reliable cruiser. It seems like I have a very good starting point, the AC even seems to work!

As for having my work cut out for me, the only real big issue is the frame rot behind the wheels, which seems to be typical of G Bodies. I see the replacement sections, but don't have welding tools or experience. Ideally I plan on having a welder down the line anyway, but with an important piece of the car like a frame, I feel like I might be better off having it professionally done.

That being said, everything I do for both cars is very budget minded. Fix what needs to be fixed, keep up on maintanence and preventative stuff, and drive it just how it is.

Oh yeah, and pictures!

Welcome,

Hang on to that Miata. Some day you might want to put an LS in it. My co working is in process of doing it. Lots of aftermarket support....

I've actually been lucky enough to see and hear an LS miata up close. It was amazing for sure having the right noise in such a neat little car. I do plan on having the miata as my daily driver for many years to come though. The car is reliable, cheap, fun, and doesn't owe me a dime so I plan on keeping it and restoring it over time as well as the monte.

Nice Monte! I almost bought one as my first car and it was sold before I gathered the moolah... :| What are your plans?
