Seems like once every 3 months I replace box fans in a warming oven at work and now I have 6 units that are no longer functioning. The warming oven operates at appx 40c / 105f and we have 4 cheap box fans in there to circulate the air. They seem to fail once the machine is turned off and left to cool. So I was bored today so I decided to take one of the units apart and break out the voltmeter. The 120v input is fine, the switch tests fine, so I dig a little deeper. Turns out there is a little fuse in the winding. Power goes in and nothing comes out. So with nothing to lose I "short" the circuit by twising the 2 legs together and the fan works again.
Any Idea what the reason is for that fuse ? I suspect its for a thermal overload?!?!? If I can just leave this bypassed then it saves me $20 for every fan I dont have to replace.
