I am putting together a back halfed street strip 80 Malibu. Everything from the drivers seat back is now riveted sheet metal. Since I will be driving this on the street I would like to add some insulation to the floor board to deaden the vibration noise and the radiant heat. I prefer something that is light weight, but will also make sure the thing doesnt rattle like a tin can. I looked into dynamat, but I do not want to add that much weight. I have researched products from thermo tec, but there are a bunch to choose from and I dont know exactly what is what. Below are a couple links to some thermo tec products I was looking at.

I will be applying carpet over the insulation. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should use?

Another option is building supply material like Blue Skin stuff,here;

Its not as thick as Dynamat so it should be lighter.Its what I used last time I had the carpet out and it seems to work pretty good.It might be cheaper than Dynamat also...

I used the 14110 under my carpet and door panels and it did a great job of keeping the heat out and anyone that rides in my car can not believe how quiet the cabin is considering how loud the car is when you are outside.
I don't know what the weight differences are but as far as doing the job I bought it for this worked well.

Tar paper bro its like dynomat but half the weight. Yes its not as good as dynomat to quiet everything down but damn close in my opinion. Me and my cousin usually put it on trunks with systems he puts in.

I just picked up a sound deadener silver faced insulation 50 mil thick from GTmat through ebay... I bought 100SQ ft for 150 and seems to be pretty good. they sent me a sample of the 80mil pro stuff which is thicker and i wish i would've spent the extra 50 and got it... But i'm gonna lay it down anyways and see what the results are! I was going to buy Dynamat extreme but for 36 sq ft i was going to pay more then the GTmat...

85GP do you know how much weight you are adding? At some point this car will be on the strip as well as the street. I looked at GT mat as well but I couldn't find anything that said how heavy it was.

If i use all 100 sq ft i weighed it in at 28 pounds using my bathroom scale....I plan on doing the floorboards, firewall, doors, and roof. I just want it to be quite and solid closing doors... Besides it sounds like a challenge for me to lose the 28lbs and be ahead :rofl: i cut some weight with my core support, ls engine, and some stripping of some parts not needed... I guess it's a valid trade off i may be ahead if i lose more then 28lbs..... :lol: I'm my cars worst weight culprit!!
