It's really a pain to reach where that clip goes, but how do you adjust that cable so it works properly? Right now it won't put the car in Park, but will put in and out of Reverse/Neutral/Drive. Else the cable is broken....

Thanks in advance.

there should be a slot on the bracket that the cable mounts on the tanny and that's where you adjust it...leave the bolt loose...put your shifter in park and manually put the transmission in park...tighten the bolt and you should be good to go...

The Clip on the shifter side of the cable came off and wondered if putting on wrong could have caused the problem. I could not see it very well and wanted to doublecheck.

Thanks

are you talking about the retaining clip that holds the wire casing in place?. If that wasn't mounted right then yes the adjustment would be off.

We outright replaced the old "slightly" busted shift cable and installed the new one. Easier to shift, but still won't go into park.

He disconnected the rod that goes to the Steering Column and the Shifter works Fine!! Anyone have an idea what else could be wrong?

Thanks

What type of shifter is it? Mine is/was a B&M Prostick and had the same prob. We had to take the shifter back apart and reassemble it. It was just slightly out of adjustment and wouldn't go into park.

did you try this yet..........and if you did are you sure you got the right cable for your transmission....an overdrive tanny doesn't use the same cable as a 3 speed

there should be a slot on the bracket that the cable mounts on the tanny and that's where you adjust it...leave the bolt loose...put your shifter in park and manually put the transmission in park...tighten the bolt and you should be good to go...

This is the standard floor shifter that came with the car and I checked that the new cable works on both Th200 and Th350 (we took the bracket and cable off the old transmission due to the cutlass must have been a column shift).

The old cable was found to be partially broken, so we replaced it. But it did shift before the swap properly. I might have to get a transmission guy to determine the issue.

All floor shift g bods have the conection to the column. If your column has a knobby part that the shifter would connect to the it might have been a column shift. But the floor shift is connected to the column so the key lockout will work properly.
