I am about ready to swap my 3.8 V6 229 for a 1978 SBC 400 (two piece rear main seal). My Elky has a factory Saginaw 4 speed. My issue is if I can use the 153 tooth flywheel that's on the V6 on the 400 motor? :?: The 400 motor is externally balanced.

Regards,

Mike

nope, the chevy 400 needs the flywheel specific to it. 383's are the same way since they use a 400 based crank.

Thanks for the response. So I guess I am going to need a different clutch setup as well as a 168 tooth flywheel?

Or a 153 tooth flywheel balanced for a 400 style crank. I had one match balanced for a 406 I swapped in a 1984 Z-28 years ago, and it worked Ok. You would want a new clutch anyhow since the V6 unit likely will not hold the 400's torque for too long.
