This is why I recommend buying from the 200 R4 experts like Extreme Automatics or CK performance. There are so many variables involved in getting a 2004R calibrated correctly. A good trans shop will verify trans performance on a test fixture and verify line pressures. Most local transmission shops don't have a clue and usually screw them up. I brought mine back 4 times before getting it right.
If you drove the car with the TV cable loose you may have glazed the clutches. This would cause sloppy upshifts but if you like the shift firmness in D, then you should be OK and the issue is likely in the valve body. Line pressure is key to shift qaulity. The tighter the throttle valve cable is, the more pressure you should see at the calibration port.
