I'm an all around Motorhead. Had a few G-bodies, but work on just about anything. With everything fun becoming a felony these days and I mean EVERYTHING, we have just about given up on street rodding, here in Washington state and have turned mostly to boats. We can run Wide open as long as we want, or until we throw the rods, go to an area on a deserted beach, have a few cocktails with friends and socialize without having the constant government overlooking our every move, in the name of Safety or Security or whatever else they cram down our throats. Sorry for the rant, but here's some of our fun stuff.
My old school flamed '99 Tahoe. The previous boat tow rig-

My boat, Blown Away. Sold it to a Buddy a couple years ago. It's a Kevlar light lay, 19' Daytona.

My Pal, Craig's tow rig. Just a LITTLE bit overkill!

The Wife and her ride. We ran out of time to actually race Hydro's, but it's not likely to be a long departure. Our neighbor owns a few of them and My wife is a natural shoe. She is fearless behind the wheel!

Another couple boats. The Green boat is my Partner's. We took the Manufacturer's Championship in the NJBA in '09

OK, That's enough for now, let's see more from others!

I'm in love!

Looks like Tri-cities area. Is that a Jetster next to the dude in orange shorts? I had one a couple years ago.

It's actually MarDon resort. Out in the resevoir. It IS a Jetster. Got a Blown Carb'd 427" Windsor based Small Block Ford in it. Way too much power for the size. He still has it, it's for sale. He's my pal that picked up my 19' Daytona. Guy is a super freak when it comes to detail and machine work!

Mine was actually an outboard that I picked up for $10 at the auction -- that's right, boat, motor, trailer and change back from a twenty! I was amazed at how solid and well built it was. I considered restoring it but ended up just parting it out. I've been looking for an old V-drive but I know I need another project like a hole in the head. Maybe someday. I'm planning to move to the Lewiston area in a couple years so that might justify boat ownership.

I can't seem to get the idea of a boat out of my head now. Thanks alot. What are your thoughts in a Cadillac 472 or 500 in a lake boat? I'd run NA with possibly a tunnel ram or fabbed intake for multiple 2GCs to give that vintage feel. Essentially a stock engine cammed to compliment the induction with a 5000-5500 ceiling. Think floating '34 coupe rather than competitive race boat. Seems to always be Olds powered boats for sale pretty cheap. I was thinking a Cad would be cool. They have a BOP pattern right? Almost identical weight and similar power levels - probably a little more torque. Think it's a bad idea? Better turning a jet or V-drive? Also, I love the look of a pickle fork or shovel nose. They always cost more and are certainly more rare. Bad Idea for a poser boat? Any advantages or disadvantages? Please, take me to school on the subject.

Some background on me: I grew up with tournament boats (Nautiques, Sangers, Flightcrafts, Centurions, etc). My dad was a California Skier(Ski West - later bought out by Malibu) dealer in the early '90s. We used to ski and demo boats all over the NW and I was basically his service/repair staff. My best friend's dad had an old Eliminator with a **cough** 360 AMC and a Panther. That was the extent of my jet experience and it, honestly, didn't make a great impression  but I always wanted something bright, loud, fast, thirsty and otherwise useless.

Oh...You're complete junk now! LOL! We race with the CDBA guys. Dexter resevoir, just outside of Eugene. So, we make the run down there a few times, plus the NJBA guys in California. Bakerswierd, and the Yuma Power tour, World Finals in Chandler (Phoenix)
We took the manufacturer's championship in '09. Old school caddy motors are cool. The problem you are going to run into is exhaust. Running traditional BBC, SBC, or BBF will give you the best,(Read cheapest) exhaust systems. We run Basset OT's (Over Transom) in most cases. For competition, we run dry. Darin, in the green with Envy boat is running custom made Lemon Merge collector headers. I'm thinkng around $4500 for a set. Bassets, off the shelf, around a grand. I also have some stainless Edelbrock drag headers, they are in the $2500 range and we have tried Borla upswept, but the mufflers get HOT and cook the gelcoat on top of the transome, at least in Blower motor applications.
I DIG shovel nose boats. Very nostalgic. Not too fast and can destabilize at speed. Great recreation boat. Vee hulled BBF boats/Berkely jet can generally be had in the $2500-$3500 range. That will get you into a decent reliable fun boat. Today's jets are far more efficient than those of yesteryear. We are running well into the tripledigits in the quarter. Joe Morgan ran 147 in his open boat last October in Bakersville. 8 second class. NJBA says "No more than 145 open cockpit" So, they made a special class for us, called the quick 6 to slow us down. 6 second in a thousand feet. It works, but we couldn't get our boat to slow down. Running 5.90's It's a tough class.
The ONLY drawback to boating, is you WILL get the speed hook set hard and Deep. These hooks are barbed and the more you try to fight it, the deeper they set. Pretty soon, you'll be neglecting your house, quitting your job, selling your project cars and hanging out in man caves. Welcome to my world. One of insensitivity, wreckless behavior, hurt feelings, copious consumption of alcoholic beverages, drained bank accounts and ear to ear smiles that can't be explained. Last week, while in Cali, we swung by the Peterson shop. We know some of the Editors of Hot Rod and so forth. Now, THIS sh*t will ruin a guy-

OK, back to work, I'll give you more info on the boats stuff after a bit.

those are some sik *ss water rockets  mee likey !! . i have very recently become very interested in these types of boats. started with an old glastron i found on youtube while researching fiberglass. been drooling all over the old glastrons, taylors, hawaiins, challengers and many more ever since, and reading everything i can find on them and boats in general. since i dont know jack about boats ( prior to this the extent of my boating experience is i have ridden in my uncles 2x in my life ) id love to pick your brain a litle if you dont mind. im seriously thinking about picking something up later this year or next. probably an old project i can start screwing around with. i like to build things myself. im pretty hard headed that way. im the kind of person who would rather spend a few months and 10 times the money to learn how to weld and buy the equipment than to just hire someone to replace a rusted floor bard in my car. have you ever built your own boat ? i mean, from scratch, designed it, made the frame and glassed it all in ? or do you know anyone who has that would be willing to let me pick theyre brain ? do you have any opinions on jet drive verse prop ? im not looking to race or go 100+ MPH ( yet ) , just for fun. if you got any more pics post 'em up, loving the boat p*rn.

after re-reading back through your post im pretty sure you have built plenty of your own boats  . i was to distracted by all the pretty pics to concentrate on anything else the first time  . so, like i said, if you dont mind talking to me let me know and ill p.m. ya.

I've been deeply immersed in the Boating Trade for all my life. My first was an old Arenacraft with a 455 olds. I was 17. Went to work in Everett grinding the bottoms of yachts and bottom painting. This led to detailing the top half. Since I was raised by some very talented businessmen, I had to fix my own **** ups with little guidance and a bunch of tools. I went to work for Munson Manufacturing in '85 or so. Aluminum boats of all sizes. Jets, I/O's Diesel, gas, props, all of it. I went to Leclercq Marine in the late 80's, thru around '92or so, with a short stint at Delta Marine industries. Worked on the 120' and 121 vessels. Alliance and Pizzaz. Leclercq was a fishing boat manufacturer, building mostly Beck hulls. We would cut the hull in two to lengthen from 42' to the new Bristol Bay limit of 54' We would also cut them lengthwise and widen them a couple feet. It seems like a lot of work, but I learned a hell of a lot, doing refrigeration and propulsion work. Got really good with fibreglass and aluminum welding. Wedo't do our own layup work, here, but do complete rigging. Aluminum hull fabrication from scratch is fun, a little dirty and LOUD, but you can do anything with it. I'll post up some more boat p*rn in a little bit. Right now, the Daughter is pulling her door panels and adding speakers, making sub enclosures, Darin is making a CD rack, Tracie is sream cleaning the Bus carpets, my wife is laying tile in the solarium, and guy just dropped of his crudader for engine plates and rail kits. We're busy, but ya, I can give you a little advice and opinion from an objective viewpoint to keep you from making some expensive mistakes.
