I have a 2000 Chevy S10 4x4. I have a front end howl. It got pretty bad. It gets worse when I turn right and gets quieter when I turn left. So I figured I had a bad driver side wheel bearing as Ive replaced these before. I have always been a creature of habit what you do to one side do to the other. So I replaced both front wheel hub bearings only for it to still have a howl on the same side. So i thought maybe its my tires, so I rotated them and its still there. I don't know what could be causing it.

Just throwing sh*t again the wall hoping it sticks, but could it be my CV's. Ive always know thought to click and pop when turning when they go bad. Never heard or experienced them to howl like a bad bearing. Or I was thinking my differential is ******** out.

Totally unrelated but will add that my rear driveshaft needs a u-joint. That I do know of. But figured I would just add it in.

Any ideas? I have just thought about driving it until whatever is making the noise finally breaks then I know what it was.

Thanks

Well I rotated the tires side to side last night and as I thought It didnt do nothing. I was under there looking everything over, like my tie rods, ball joints etc. and everything looks good. The CVs I replaced back in 2009 and seem to look good. No torn boots so I know they are still greased. While I was at it I changed that rear u-joint.

I guess I'm looking at a defective driver wheel bearing right out of the box, and it was a coincidence that the one that was bad in which I replaced was the driver side. :wtf:

What are the odds of that....maybe ill play the lottery today.

I found this....

Customer Question

I have a 2002 Chev s10 crewcab and a growling niose is coming out of the right front hub. The vehicle is 4x4 with automatic hubs and shifting. I put the vehicle in 4x4 to pull the boat out of the river and when taking out of 4x4 the hub seemed to not come out. A few feet later I headrd the "Growl" that I thought was the hub trying to unlock. I pushed the 4x4 button and the 2wd button and it seemed to go into 2 wd. A few weeks later the growl appeared but only when I turn right and then when the turn is a little sharper than normal. I had the wheel bearing assembly replaced and the noise did not go away. Also the front suspension is not rubbing and alignment is ok. what is the fix?

To see if the noise is coming from the front diff remove the existing vent hose on the diff and install a long piece of rubber hose to the vent so you can hear thru the hose while driving under the aforementioned conditions. If the noise is very clear and present thru the tube suspect the 4X4 is staying engaged in the front diff.

hmm, that is interesting. I know that is just a cable that actuates the front diff. I will see if I can disengage it by hand. But I bet that is what it is.

Thanks alot.

what speeds can you hear it at?
