fuel delivery problems at the strip

Othtim,

My motor is probably Right around 330 or so, never measured it. I'm pretty sure the ss pump puts out around 5.5 to 6 psi, which works fine without a regulator. Any more and you'll need an external regulator or you risk pushing the needle open.

Othtim,

Hey man,

I had the same problem, rebuilt the top end, modified and rebuilt Q-jet, big-*ss Holley fuel pump, and the problem came back this weekend. Some older experienced guys at the track where running 10 seconds in a stock class with Q-jets and hot iron intakes. They were saying that PSI is not as critical as volume. You NEED volume with a Q-jet or it will shut down on you at half track... I bet like most people, this fuel problem is worse when its really hot and humid out. Even if the gas is hot, you need to send that Q-jet a strong flow. I tried 3 mechanical fuel pumps, and the only one that solved it was the one with big volume. unfortunatly, it wasn't mine

good luck! 8)

Hi.

So I'm running an 83 monte w/ a 350. Car has a rebuilt and modified quadrajet. I've got a problem where when I get about halfway down the track the car starts leaning out and eventually stalls. It is running out of fuel. I've been told (and i've read online too) that this is because the q-jet has a small bowl. My qjet was modified by a local speed shop but the bowl size was not changed. I currently have a mechanical carter OE replacement pump.

Some people at the track were suggesting that I buy an electric booster pump and put that near the tank, and switch on when I'm at the track.

How would I go about resolving this issue? I realize my fuel pump is OE replacement quality. I have a holley 110 GPH mechanical pump too, sitting on the shelf. I'm open to suggestions on how to resolve this.

what dist. you running? i knew a guy that went threw 3 carbs and electric pump, found out he was running a stock hei,
so i ask him if he recurved the dist. to match his hp tq gears? he had it recurved and solved his problem!!!
