Fuel gauge issue ...

My fuel gauge sits way past full until it is about half tank and then goes all the way down to the empty mark. It annoys the crap out of me and I was wondering if anyone that has had the same issue? If I replace the sending unit will it fix the whole problem?
And it is not the typical bounce around issue that these things have.

check the ground wire first....

i would double check the wiring just in case, but it sounds like the sending unit is screwed. they aren't much money.
