Akron, Oh.
Hey all, I just picked up an 86 grand prix about a month ago for a nice price. I'm getting everything ready so I can drop this 383/700r4 combo that I got. According to the VIN, this car came from the factory with a v6. I've read the sticky on v6 to v8 swaps and it said that the fuel lone has to be re-plumbed to the passenger's side. Thing is, there is already two full lines on that side of the car. Is it possible to use those lines and plug the charcoal canister line? If anyone can offer any help I'd appreciate it. I'm getting impatient cause every thing is suspended in the air and ready to go together. Oh and if someone has done this swap before can you aware me of anything I might need to make things go easily? Thanks

Some cars had the fuel lines on the side needed all depended on what motor the factory installed. So yes you can use them.
As long as you changed the frame mounts to the v8 setup you should have no problems installing. Then you have to make sure you have the right lenght drive shaft for your trans. All the rest is minor stuff. good luck

I got the v8 mounts already. But has anyone used a 700r4 and the stock column shifter? Thanks chevy2480

You can rip that charcoal canister right out of there.

If car was equipt with overdrive your good. If it was a 3spd column it will not have the right detent plate for the od so you will not get every gear if you want to shift it. so in other word it should work just not the way you would like.

I'm trying to run a mechanical fuel pump due to low maintenance and I don't want to hear a whining sound when I'm driving the car, BUT, the car once had a 4.3 which means there is an electric fuel pump in the tank. If I were to run both, would the electric pump be able to keep up with the mechanical which pumps 80gph?

That sounds like a great combo. You'll love the 1st gear and the o/d as well...When my car is in o/d you would never know I'm running 4.10 gears...Anyways, instead of the column shifter have you considered an aftermarket floor shifter? I went with a BandM Pro Stick...As far as your fuel pump woes, just take the electric one out and while your at it run a nice 3/8 line to your new pump...Or better yet, buy a new tank and put a sump in it...Here's a pic of my shifter :

Thanks. Where'd you get the shifter from? Oh and did your 700r4 have the lockup solenoid? If so do you use it? That's a nice car you've got there JBreu. I might try to run both fuel pumps. How hard is it to drop the tank? I've never done that on a gbody before. Thanks for everyone's input.

Got my shifter from Summitt....I chose to not run the lock up so I went with a non l/u converter from PTC Race and had the converter conversion valve installed as well....Tank isn't too hard at all to drop, just remove the straps and disconnect the lines/wires... Thanks for the compliment as well!!
