Hey guys,

Dont mean to sound dumb, but i'm doing an engine swap. I want to change the fuel lines (tank-fuel pump), and dont know what size to get, and how long? Should i also change the fuel tank sending unit? 😳 😳

Thanx

Depends on what type of engine you are going with but for most, 3/8 inch line should be fine. Lines can be a pain to bend so be prepared. If you can, look into braided line, not sure if it will collapse if the fuel pump is on the motor sucking it up. If you are going with a BIG high HP engine, go with a bigger line, I think my neighbor used 1/2 main line and he has a 440 BB with a six pack setup pushing around 440 HP. Like I said, it was a pain to bend it and he regretted it cause it looks like crap now.

I think they come in 20 foot lengths ant that should be plenty.

As far as the sending unit, you shouldn't have to worry, a stock one is fine as long as it matches your gauges.

Buying a roll of 3/8th steel line is your best bet.
They also sell it in like 4 foot sections.
I'm not sure if they sell anything pre-bent for the G-bodys...

You should buy a decent tubing bender and a flaring tool as well.

Well, i'm not putting out that much hp. I say high 300. I also looked in to getting some nylon braided fuel lines, but thought about the cost. Would a good quality ruber hose work to? For example;Russell sells a performance twist lok hose that's a lil cheaper than the braided ones.

Im thinking of doing ruber from the tank to the fuel pump, and under the hood russell performance proclassic black hose with black end tips.

I am pretty sure it will work. My only concern is if the pump is on the engine and is sucking it all the way from the tank, it might collapse a little. As long as it isn't a cheap floppy line and has a good wall thickness you should be ok.

3/8 line is fine for what you are doing.

Thanx pokertramp.

How hard is it to run a steel line through the frame?

Not too hard, but it takes some patience, and a hoist really helps.
You can do it in a few pieces and splice them together if need be.
I'll be doing the same thing this summer on my wagon as I switch the lines over to the passenger side of the car since it was a v6 originally.

Running rubber hose the full length from the tank to the motor is kinda dangerous. That, and I don't know if you plan on making a trip to the strip sometime or not, but they'll never pass you in tech inspection with it either.
