Yea I would rather see you run a good mechanical than an out of tank electric. A GN/4.3 tbi Monte tank or new ebay replacement with an in-tank electric is the chit though. No offense but fyi the Holley red is bottom of the barrel. Its got a terrible reputation that runs back to the 70s for being loud short lived and weak. Holley still sells some though because they are chinese cheap, one of the original electrics, and people often just do what their uncle or father etc before them did. I see no reason to run a gravity fed out of tank electric on a street g-body anyway. People ran them on older cars because they didn't have a better option. People only run them in street g-bodys because they don't know / understand they have a better cheaper even easier option.
My dad used the exact same holley red on his 440 dart (675hp/750lb) back in 82' and I am using it now. Has ran great for the five years I've had it with no issues whatsoever, meaning this 30 year old pump is still kicking fuel. It's the holley blues that are POS. Those carter electric fuel pumps are one of the original electrics as well that still work really well. Why change old with new when there is nothing wrong with it? There were plenty of other options than the holley red. It's like a hunter blaming the gun for not shooting the deer. Sometimes it's the person not hooking or mounting the fuel pump right, resulting in a part going to sh**. Easier for someone to blame it on the part when they probably just fu**ed up.
The whole chinese cheap argument no longer means anything since almost all the parts are manufactured in China. Those that say "Made in USA" means that they were assembled here, not that the parts were made here. Most of the replacement parts for g bodies are made in mexico.
