Hello All,

I'm looking for a definitive answer and maybe a few pictures of a GN tank installed in a cutlass. I know the physical tank will fit in the space but I notice that the filler necks from the GN tank and my original cutlass tank are definitely different. I've tried searching and there is a lot of information about all sorts of fuel tanks and swaps. However, can someone tell me that the GN tank will work without mods?

TIA
Ken

Not a cutlass but I just put a gn tank in my 80 regal. All went well but I needed longer bolts and 2" spacers

The tank from a GN will work just fine in a cutlass.

I also installed a 87 T-type fuel tank in my GP without any issues... 😀

I'm not certain the op got the 'definitive' answer he seeks. Does a GN tank with the GN filler neck fit in a Cutlass with no fitment issues? I myself was looking to do this a while back and never got a definitive answer either. The best info I can recall was that the filler neck of the GN tank 'may' fit in a Cutlass but not be centered behind the licence plate. That however isn't quite a definitive answer though. For future reference, I too would like to know for sure what the dealio is.

On a related note, I seem to recall a certain aftermarket brand's ( Spectra? ) GN tank being available without a filler neck which could be purchased separatly. So for a Cutlass, you could get the GN tank which should fit for sure and the Cutlass filler neck which should fit the tank and the car properly for sure too.

Sorry guys, I must have missed this thread. Here's some pics of a gn tank in my 86 cutlass. Fits good, just need spacers/bolts if your worried about over tightening the straps. Are you going fi?

Yeah, 375 stroked SBO.

The guy I bought the tank from even gave me the straps. I think I'll compare them to my original straps to see if that is where the difference is for needing spacers

Thanks, for the pics and information. Now I can refinish the tank.

Out of curiosity, whats the reason anybody would switch from a standard cutlass tank to a GN tank? is there that much of a difference in volume for the trouble?

The GN tanks and the TBI monte carlo tanks have fuel wells in them for fuel injection. I had a 4.3 TBI monte carlo, and cut the plastic bowl/well out of the tank long ago.

SO, to answer your question, if you want to run Fuel Injection, get one of these tanks, and the correct sender/pump hanger. (GN/FI monte)
