There is a problem with the E15 fuel that I read about. The E15 is 15% ethanol and 85% gas which can damage an engine like ours if we use it. There are people out there that don't know that and use it on vehicles older than 2011 which are never supposed to use the E15. They say even some newer than 2011 can't use the E15. Most of us are using the E10 (10% ethenol) so how much are we losing on the life and performance on our engine. If only 5% more ethanol than we use can destroy our engines the 10% must damage it but on a slower scale. ... :wtf:

The biggest issue with Ethanol is when it sits for prolonged periods because it absorbs moisture. "They" have been campaigning against Ethanol blends since the late 70's.

the ethanol is pretty corrosive on it's own. In our engines if you use the E15 you'll destroy the valve stems among other things

where are they selling E15? i havent seen it yet, but im going to be a lot more cautious about what i pump into my tank now. anyone know where you can get gas with less ethanol in it?

Why not just switch to E-85 and quit bitchin?

Portland area uses E15 seasonally. Ever since any of the ethanol blends came to the area we've been replacing more fuel pumps. Haven't really seen any obvious and irrefutable evidence that it increases engine wear. Theoretically the argument makes sense though. Ethanol is a great cleaner but it hates rubber. I will say that it really hurts fuel economy. Both my wife's car and my motorcycle get proportionally better mpg when on long trips where we can get actual gasoline. E10 costs about 10% mpg. E15 returns a 15% mpg penalty. That's why it's such a scam/joke. We're supposed to embrace this "clean, environmentally friendly" fuel but you have to burn so much more of it to go the same distance. Just doesn't add up to me.

It is not corrosive on it's own. It becomes corrosive once it has mixed with water.

It really shouldn't cost as much as it does. Newer flex fuel vehicles are getting closer to not losing much in mpg. Don't pay any attention to what the window sticker says the projected mpg of any given vehicle is on E85. They don't actually test it, just add x% to the gasoline mpg.

in germany, the lower octane fuel we got "on-post" was E10, and my 2002 Expedition 5.4 HATED the E10. Ran like hot garbage. So i was stuck paying for the 93/Premium gas the entire time i was out there
I can't imagine a stock older vehicle running E15

I've been running the premium ethenol blend in all the vehicles. The malibu, has no issues with it, still gets respectable milage for what it is (round 20 mpg's, as long as my cruise speed is about 50 mph, haha). The Jeep runs well on it, but gets piss poor milage. The blue and red Eagles run well on it, get decent milage (23-25). Recently a local station brought in 87 non ethenol, So I used the red eagle, and the jeep as test subjects. The red, doesn't mind much, a little ping on hard acceleration, but much of that is due to, too agressive of curve on the distributor. The jeep, does not like, at all, it pings, and diesels (never did either before), but milage improved :blam: , picky b*st*rd, it's back to premium for it until I can find 91 non ethenol and try again.
