For those that have done the full floor pan replacement what are you doing about the rear edge at the rear seat along with the driveshaft hump (circled in red). I know all the pans are stamped after a el Camino so it’s different than a Regal. Looking for some input as I get ready to tackle it in my car. I’ve seen some that were cut and welded kind of low just looking to see if anyone else had any better suggestions.

I overlapped about 1in. You'll have to trim it a few times to get it to fit. I pulled the pan in and out atleast 5x. I used self tapping screws, tack welds and hot hammer work to get everything tight. I didn't wanna cut it out real low. I wanted my lap to be up higher.

Here's where i cut the pan at

The red line is where i cut the hump at to get it fit together. But when i flipped the car over i had to cut a portion out. Then i tacked and hammered it till it was flat and tight.

The key is to use the heat to your advantage. Its alot easier to move hot metal. The 2 pcs should be as tight as possible before you lap weld or you'll just blow holes.

I have to tell you guys, some of the work you guys do to put these cars back in shape is really impressive. I can build a motor with the best of them but I can't seem to get the hang of working sheet metal like you guys do. I have two welders, cutting torches, a plasma cutter, cutters, grinders and a shop full of other really cool crap but my sheet metal worth isn't worth a damn. I'm getting better but it just doesn't seem to come easy. I'm retired now, so I will get there but I still have a loooooooooong way to go. My hat is off to you guys

hello guys. i am new to the group. i need my floor pan repaired in my 82 monte. who normally do that type of work? is it the body repair guys or paint shops?
