I have a 1949 Chevrolet Pickup with a 350/th350 that has just had a 1978 Monte Carlo front clip grafted onto the front and i'm having some major header clearance issues. Because of the modifications we had to make when installing the subframe, the short Hedman headers (#68608) don't quite fit: the passenger side just barely rubs on our modified rails.

Because the dimensions and tube locations on the shorty headers were perfect, I opted for a set of full length headers since I have plenty of ground clearance: the idea was to get the collectors to drop at the trans pan level clearing our modified frame rails). I purchased a set of Hedman 68318. However, there is no way that these will fit: the 2nd and 3rd tubes drop straight into the crossmember. Has anyone been able to successfully install these headers in a 78 or newer Monte Carlo? If so do you have any pictures?

The headers just look plain wrong... even if I moved the motor back a good 6" they still don't look like they would clear the crossmember. If they had slanted tubes like the #68608 they would fit perfect. And I do know they are correctly boxes (the part number is on the flange) and they are the recommended long tube set per Hedman (I gave them a call).

So currently I have two sets of headers that I can' t use.... Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ryan
