You should be able to type out the text you want to put the link behind, then highlight that text and press CTRL+K and then paste the URL in the popup box that appears...highlighted in yellow below.

don't worry, some sites do that, especially the GM Heritage site. the link is still valid
 
Click on the edit button down at the bottom of the post, then park the cursor at the end of the offending phrase and start backspacing. For every click of the backspace key, one letter of the phrase ought to disappear until they are all gone. Then go back down the the edit line and click on Save.

Edit and I are old friends simply because my spelling often suffers when I try to type too fast while dealing with ideas and information that I am trying to get onto the screen before I forget them.
