They DID come out with it and it sold very well... in Australia. It is sold there as the Holden Maloo. It's an Aboriginal word meaning Thunder. They were all set to bring it to the US as the Pontiac G8 ST, but Obama Motors killed that one just like they did the amazing Pontiac G8 sedan. The Holden Commodore VXR8 is a stupendous car with everything you would find in a BMW M5, except the Roundel and the price. It is also sold in Europe (the sedan at least) as either an Opel or a Vauxhaull. Oh, the Commodore is also sold as a sport wagon down under as well. Yes, the model lineup of Holden almost makes me want to move to the Antipodes!

the monte carlo is still being made as far as i know because i have seen the new ones with the malibu style front ends
