Ive looked at both the columns and they look exactly the same. My 88 cherokee has the same column as far as I can tell as the 85 salon column. I dont know if the wiring is the same, but I would assume it is??

even where it mounts to the floor board? try an get some pics up,many interesting minds would like to know 😀

I know both columns were built by Saginaw and were largely the same mechanically, but I would be very suprised if they are completely interchangeable. I need proof.

After reading this I googled "Jeep Cherokee steering column swap" and, on an off road forum someone was saying a cherokee column was interchangeable with a s-10 column, by extension would a s-10 column fit a G-body? Also the columns that Summit racing sells under their own brand, and Ididit brand seem to be pretty universal. So maybe there are more columns to consider. Lastly,Car-parts.com lists lots of floorshift columns for G's fairly cheap (under $100)

got a pic so we can tell?

I since destroyed the faker. But I know how to take one apart not completely. 😀
Also jeep and f-bodies columns do not fit. The top part is the same however. If and when I return to this project(and don't sell it) I'll just order one from car-parts.com.

I can tell you this: I just ordered a Buick Factory Service Manual off Ebay, and it explains how to disassemble and reassemble the steering columns step by step down to the last nut and bolt. Same goes for the steering boxes, transmissions, differentials, and every other component of the car, along with every wiring diagram. Haynes and Chiltons never even come close to this.

FYI.

When I ment they the columns are the same, I ment the upper halves. I hit submit to early. The bottom halves are different. Its not that hard to swap the upper halves out though. I didnt say they were bolt in, but all the upper plastic is right to swap over. It wont bolt in, but if you take a GM column from anything with a console shift take off the plastic, and swap it over it isnt that hard. F bodies and Jeeps just happen to commonly come with GM floor shift columns with the right plastic.

If I knew that people would take my word as gospel I never would have posted such a vuage response.

*Disclaimer-Not everything I say is completely typed up or 100% acurate for that matter!

To supercrackerbox; How much u get it for. And Yes I want one if I can either get one really cheap or the extra cash to pay the 200 price alot of people ask for. Also how do you separate the collar from the from the shaft?
to 81cutlass; LOL! the gospel. Actually I'm just looking for the knowledge of other who may have came across such a project. Well I took mine apart down to the steering shaft. I just could not remove the collar. Is there a trick to it?

I paid about $30 shipped for it, and that was because I chose one of the slightly nicer ones. Not a bad deal at all. I also own FSMs for all my Dodges too. They are invaluable.

Just guessing by your screen name, here's one for a 1987 Regal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1987-Bui ... 27b61659b5

It looks pretty beat up, but better than the other one listed for $70  Or hold out for a nicer one. I do plan to buy one for a later car just for the transmission info, as I'll be doing a 200-4R swap in my Regal.
