G body rearend shake?

I had the same problem about a year ago. I had a 2004r at the the time of the vibration. After I destroyed that trans I installed a Th350 and the vibration went away. Ended up being a bad tail shaft bushing. Hope you can figure out your issue.

I know that you said that you have had the driveshaft balanced, but I have experienced that it could still be your problem. I Had a truck come into my shop that had a very similar complaint. I went all through the rear end ooking for issues, rotated tires, ect. They had the shaft checked and balanced before it came to me. Finally I took the shaft out and drove it in 4WD, No Shake. Now, you obviously can not drive your car in 4WD, but just because your shaft has been checked, does not mean it is right. With the 9 in. you would have had it cut, I suppose.

I'v been fighting this problem ever sense i installed a 9" last year...

Did you have the housing checked to make sure it's straight?
Just because parts are new doesn't mean they didn't get ****ed up some how.

I will second checking your tailshaft, as well as the transmission mount and crossmember.
If the trans is out of alignment or able to move around, it can open a big can of worms...

I went back with the D shaft & he checked it again, brought me in the back & showed me how they do it, even taped on a weight to show how it would throw off the balance on the dial indicator, This shop does have a VG reputation, so i have to somewhat trust them, They did up a custom D shaft for my 97 Z28 when i installed a 9" in that, that car was smooth, even at 120 MPH.

I'm stating to think maybe theres something wrong with the housing, what, i don't know, I just talked with Mikes Montes & he said your not the only one with complaints on installing these 9"s in G bodies, If there not set up right, you'll have issues, you either love them or hate them. He said your best bet is dropping in a GN 8.5" & be done with it.

The trans mount was changed, Funny thing is, the old mount was laying on the cross member (metal too metal), so i thought for sure this was the problem, low & behold it still had the same symptoms.

As for the trans shacking, I'v not ruled this out, but the tial shaft bushing is nice & snug, now i have experienced this issue on other cars in the past, it has the same symptoms as a driveshaft/u-joint issue (vibration), I have gone so far as calling many trans shops asking if anything inside the guts of the trans will cause this, they said, if most cases no, but if the internals were that loose to cause this, the trans would most likely be slipping or just go out all together, This trans is in pretty good shape.

Just reading this now.

U have a spool or posi?

Does the vibration increase with speed?

If you are running a spool which i feel you are. It sounds like your rear isnt straight so your getting bind.

Or its the trans. Swap the trans. See what happens.

Normally a high speed shake is a balance issue, low speed shake is a component issue, loose u joint etc. Do you have a u-joint tight in the yoke? Remove the driveshaft and make sure the rotate smooth. Try pulling the tires first then the axles and eliminate shake while running in the air. I would think if the brake drums were the issue you might have a brake pulsation in the pedal. Without seeing/being there it's always hard, I hope it helps good luck.

I'v had the tires off & on he stands, it does seem to be smooth.

were the stands on the axle tube or the frame? I would put the wheels back on with the stands on the frame and try it again

By placing the stands under the frame and allowing the axle to hang your driveline angles change and could vibrate worse. To duplicate it as close to driving it's better to have the stands under the axle tubes.

Yeah its a full spool, I thought about the trans, but what could it be in the trans?? Whats the best way to check straightness on these 4 links? Someone told me it was the spool, he said find an open case & slap it in, said i'll bet the shaking goes away.

Have you made sure the rear is squared up and goes is straight?

If the frame was hit it could be a problem.

You should have the rear dead nuts center. Measure from point to point.

There should be equal space between wheel and frame.

Could be alot of things in trans.

Where r u located?
Make sure the axles and everything are install good.
