Does anybody else have a problem with the gas tank overflowing when you fill up? At all but a couple gas stations I have filled up at, the tank will overflow at least a couple cups of gas before the automatic shutoff on the pump kicks in. Is this just how these tanks are? I cant really imagine anything breaking or malfunctioning to make this happen...except the gas pump maybe.

I have a 85 grand prix and I can't pump at full blast, it constantly clicks off the pump lol. No full serve gas for me! the d00ds always get a pissed off look hahaha

I used to have that problem at a couple places, too. I would get about 5 cents of gas at a time, before it would shut off, unless i only held the handle on the nozzle part way down. Maybe its the angle that the filler neck is at, that causes the auto-shut off to act up on the pumps. I dont really care now, but I don't want it messing my car up once I get it repainted...whenever that ends up being.

I have that problem also, but the funny thing is,,,it only started happening after i put a new gas tank in it. I think it has to do with the vent hose on the gas tank sending unit. Some have three hoses going to the sending unit and some have only two. I am pretty sure that the tank isn't venting properly so when you fill it up the fumes back up causing the gas to overflow i think, i'm not really sure but like i said it only started to happen after i put the new tank in. I would have to drop the tank again and look where the hoses are hooked up to and see if i crossed a couple of them, one of them goes to the charcoal canister which acts as a vent for the gas fumes. Another problem i have which is related to this overflow problem is when i shut my car off for a while i notice that the gas slowly empty's back out of the fuel filter which leaves the carb dry or not primed then i have to pump the pedal a few times to start the car i can see the fuel because i have a glass fuel filter, is this normal?? If someone could answer these problems for us i would greatly appreciate it because it's been bugging me for a while now!

Happens to me at certain gas stations, the nozzle constantly clicks off every few seconds . . . have to hold it the whole time. The attendant tells me every since they got their newer pumps installed almost all of the cars with rear facing tank necks do that. Thinks it has to do with the height. I don't know. The tank is brand new and it only happens at certain gas stations.

Its the angle you have the nozzel in the tank, just make sure you don't have it all the way in the filler and you'll be alright

All my rear mounted tanks do that. My 87 GP, 71 Torino, 73 Cad, 85 Fleetwood. My 99 Tahoe, 78 Elky, and 01 Blazer are OK. Along with the angle of the nozzle, I think it has to do with how fast the pumps are. Some stations have the pumps set fast. The faster they pump the less gas you actually get. Might not be a big amount to each of us but for them they make some extra $$.

Dicks.

Also...got enough vehicles?! damn.

Funny..... All my old cars are fine, I can fill them up till it flows out of the filler. Now on my 2004 Expolder it was constantly clicking off at certian stations. Now my 2008 Toyota Tundra does simliar things at the same stations. I have a 73 Cutlass, 82 Cutlass, 88 Ranger and a 2001 Impala. It must be the pumps....
