Gas tank overflow issue

I've only filled up at a few spots, never had a problem with my car.

There are many reasons for it to happen to our cars. The main two is how far the nozzel is in the tank (Too far in it will just keep clicking off. Too far out the fill sensor on the pump won't detect the fuel in time to shut off the pump.) and the fact our old cars don't have a vent tube on the fill neck to to keep the fuel from burping back and giving an advance notice to the shut off port. The lack of advance notice is why we have to pump slower than most cars because the fill neck vent should be aligned with the shut off port on the pump.

If you look at the gas nozzel the next time you fill up filp it over and near the tip you will see a smaller shut off port facing down. The idea is when it is blocked and air can't get up the small port the pump stops.

When I was in college I worked at a gas station and the guy that did the repairs enjoyed showing me how everything worked.

The gas station I frequent up the street from me has their pumps on somewhat of a hill. With any of my cars parked with the nose facing down, and the tail pointed up, I've never had any problems. Try it, it works.

Park them on a flat surface, and I have to use the low setting on the pump, or it will shut off.

Its the angle you have the nozzel in the tank, just make sure you don't have it all the way in the filler and you'll be alright

That always worked for me.
