Well that's a good enough brand you shouldn't be having those kind of issues. The one i'm using is some cheap no name brand.
 
If you buy them used make sure the 2 small wires in the back arent cut. Atleast on AutoMeters and AutoGages the 2 small brown and orange wires in the back are cut for anything but a V8. When I got mine it read fine from idle to around 1500 then went way to fast. It was showing about 9k when in reality I was at around 3500-400k RPM. I just spliced the wires back together and its fine now.
 
Something else that you can use for adding gauges and plugs directly into your fuse block would be one of these:

Just another option for powering them.
