I spent a few weeks on classicoldsmobile years ago, waaaay fewer comments per week than here ... after two run-ins there years ago with rude know-it-alls that don't know the difference between fact & opinion and cannot grasp how brainstorming sessions work I have the impression it's just a nasty bunch of old men

Well, every Oldsmobile is classic now. The last one was built over 25 years ago. Some are even Jurassic. So the classicoldsmobile.com forum name part of "classic" is kind of non-relevant anymore. But we all know what it means.

It's also not a good idea to discount other forums just because one or two A-holes make it difficult to ask a question there. You don't have to read all the posts, and you don't have to listen to anyone's advice, no matter how sound it is. We even have people here that do that. If it feels like it's too much, pack up and leave 'em.

Classic Olds isn't a bad place from what I've seen. There's a lot of knowledge there, just as there is here. This it true of many forums out there. Pick the one(s) you like best and feel comfortable being a part of. The ignore list is where the problem children end up for me. So it's not as bad as it can be sometimes. Remember, the only way they can get under your skin is if you let them. If you're not acting like a d!!ck then you shouldn't be treated like one. Fact: You won't ever change the interwebz idiots. You can lay out fact after fact, but that never convinces anyone that's living in a parallel Bizzaro universe where they're the only one living in it. Keep that in mind, and you'll do just fine. :)

The problem is that one of the most knowledgeable members is the biggest a-hole. If you want to learn something, you have to see through the arrogance. Oldsmobile performance is quickly becoming a lost art.

Interestingly, I used to think that about the flat-head ford guys back in my younger days. They had their garage walls lined with flat head parts and go on and on about Edelbrock heads being better than Offenhausers (they were all pretty much flat with tiny combustion chambers, wtf?), Stromberg carburetors on Offy intakes, downdraft whatever the hell, etc. I'd just scratch my head and wonder why they didn't use a modern OHV engine...like a 455 Olds? :)
