how did you find the part numers because I looked it up on gmpartsdirect and it noly reconizes one of the two but didnt have muck discription

No problem..........It's my job  I work in a GM parts dept. I have noticed Gm parts direct doesn't recognized many of the old part numbers, it's not a bad setup though.

would that chart work with a TH400?

according to that site it does not matter what trans just rear gear and tire size

nice!! just in time for my transmission and gear change lol....

Yours is a bit on the expensive side, (compared to the above) the drive gear should be an 18 tooth blue # 8679984, $29.06, this part is currently discontinued, however there are dealers out there that have it. The driven gear, look towards a 44 tooth, dark gray, # 9780470 $8.20, still available. Or the 43 tooth purple # 1362196 $8.20 still available. These gears also may require a certain adapter/sleeve #1362293, $50.33. Summit may be cheaper for you. Keep in mind these are for 3.23 gears, on a 79 GM B-body with about a 27 inch tire. 3.25 wasn't an option, but those numbers can be a starting point.

awesome ...ty ....i have 26 inch tires ...reason for the 3.25 is because im runing a ford 9 rear

I figured that might be a ford ratio, lol. Maybe start with a 45 tooth driven gear then, # 9775187 (LT blue), might get you in the ball park, but not 100%.
