I just got a quote from a guy that is going to do a engine and trans swap for my gbody. Now i already have all the parts so the price that he charged is labor.so all he has to do is swap the parts in place.well he told me that the price would be $4700.00 for him to do everything below :wtf: thats what i am thinking.the exhaust is not even included in the price.here a list of all the parts that he is replace and swapping so remember its all labor. Here is a detail breakdown for the work that is getting done to the car below

these are the things he is swapped out replacing for the performance parts that i already have on hand.

engine
transmission
radiator
gas tank
fuel pump
wire harnes for engine

parts that are being repalce on the engine for performance upgrade parts

timing chain
injectors
cam,
oil pan
intake

its a 5.3 thats going in there and a modified 700r4 that i already had on hand what do you guys think for the price of labor that he is asking for is it fair.or is he over charging me.

i have a little over 5k on my swap and that doesn't include the exhaust!!, i have done most of the work myself so i can't charge labor to myself... And my stock ls1 doesn't have any upgrades for now . so it's a bargain IMO, and i went cheap everywhere i could.. I did redo the whole drivetrain and suspension as well.

$4700 for labor only doesn't seem like a bargain to me for an engine and transmission install. The LS swap is pretty well documented at this point. Why don't you do it yourself?

Looking back over your past 3+ years of posts, you've talked about swapping a 4.8, 4.8 w/turbo, 5.3, 3.8 turbo, 3800, Olds 350, 3.6 LLT, and probably a couple more that I missed. At one point you claimed that you already had the 4.8 "vortex" swap done. I've also seen mention of a Monte Carlo, 442, Grand Prix, and Lemans. Honestly, at this point I'm having trouble keeping it straight.

To answer your original question about whether it's a good deal? If you have the money and can't do it yourself, I guess it's ok. Who cares what we think anyway? Seems like a lot to me but I'm not on the opposite side of the planet from my car. You could always just wait until you get back to do it yourself. $4700 buys a lot of tools.

its nice to see a fan keep up with what i post.I can send you a autograph if you like.Yea i could wait until i get back but thats not my situation.Which explains why i posted this topic, while your at it you can go back and high light what i posted in the pass so you can get straight.

Yeah! seems this guy who wants to charge you that much for an install minus any exhaust is hoping and preparing to take you for a ride. I by no means am interested in taking on a project at this time, but were I to be interested................id certainly feel guilty that somebody would think that if I were to throw out that number that I would also be perceived as taking you to the cleaner. Id do it for much less than $4700.00, you should do as patients do when ill.....................Get a second and third opinion/estimate.
