GM was ruined long ago, In the mid-eighties they thought it would be a good idea to start making cars nobody wanted to buy the FWD and then started not making anything else but FWD, This bonehaed move ascertained losing all the police dept. vehicles (gave them to Ford) taxi cabs, etc etc etc anywhere someone neede a dependable car that would hold up to some hard running, The RWD Olds Cutlass was the best selling vehicle for years and years and look what they did to that.

pretty sure this is in the wrong section as I am pretty sure it does not have a damn thing to do with regals or gn's.........But I agree

I wanted to stop reading here

But then I saw this

The RWD Olds Cutlass was the best selling vehicle for years and years and look what they did to that.

and thought why did you post this. If GM made the best selling car until the mid/late eighties... how is it a car's fault.

Did every american car company just sh*t handle every car they've built since 1972? What does converting to FWD have anything to do with competition and outsourcing?

I think hes refernig to how it was a best seller, then they changed it to that ugly fwd POS and the sales of any "cars" (excluding trucks) have been sh*t until the new malibu came out, and that ended up being overhyped anyway, because GM had ruined their image with todays consumers (people who were alive at the time when GM sucked aka late 80;s early 90's) and saw the reliablitliy of the imports.

If this is the theory, you're going to need to include everything from the mid 70's to the mid/late 90's. Once again, it's not the cars fault for not selling, they were made well enough

All I can say is, GM cars did take a plunge when they introduced they fwd versions of cars that were best sellers BUT the major reason was that the crap they did produce was mis priced big time compared to imports we were selling cars like the beretta/corsica/lumina those cars fell apart so fast it was rediculos and horsepower was not an option I always like the camaro but my buddy at the time let me drive a twin turbo 300Z at the nissan delership and i was no contest, even the stock 300z had more get up and go, and a vette wasn't near my price range

GM had major paint problems in the mid 80s. The cars looked like they were styled by the accountants.
The move to FWD was triggered by the increasing demand for better fuel mileage (CAFE standards), which your Congressmen and President signed off on.
It's the same deal now....better mileage, lower emissions.
The Japanese were good at it, we weren't.
Right now Toyota, instead of crying about the poor global economy is cranking out hybrids big time.....they will be the winners as the price of gas returns to $4 and the economy rebounds.

Sorry I did post this in the wrong section, I wasn't targeting any model in particular, it was all of GM's models, Roger Smith ruined that company. I really don't think the emissions standards and all had anything to do with it, it was just MUCH CHEAPER for them to make a car with uni-body construction and no frame, but they charged us the same price, bigger profits for sh*tty cars,--------DISPOSABLES-------- I don't think you'll ever see a Cutlass Calais room or an Aurora room or thread, or a Honda Accord forum

No one blamed anything on the car, I am blaming it on GM for ruining the car. Again General Motors quit making cars that people wanted and because of that gave away a huge chunk of a market they once controlled to other companies like Ford and Chrysler. (police cars, city vehicles, taxi cabs etc) Front wheel drive cars and GM's arrogance ruined that company

The FWD replacement for the G body (A10) was a complete joke. However in 89 I think the W body was something that GM did right. Of course it was the year after the G died, but as a transporting car, the W body hit a home run for us at least. Mom had a 91 regal 2 door, almost zero problems. Dad ended up driving way past 250000 miles. Of course the little stuff broke, but if you could live with that it was a great car. Cam sensor ended up going out and it wasn't worth it to fix it so it got crunched. Of course the W body wont ever make a drag car but as a driver, it is great.
