I know when I first started to build the MC with the Camaro 350 I wanted to put Patriot side pipes
on the car. For one I had never seen a monte with these. After getting the pipes and the almost
impossible connection configuration from the header collector to the (behind the front wheel )
side pipe connection , which took multiple exhaust parts welded together to make a real tight "S"
bend. It sounded good and looked great. However at speeds around 60 mph the exhaust drone
was so loud it was uncomfortable to drive. when we pulled the motor due to a bad crank, i pulled
the side pipes and sold them in favor for straight duals out the back.

While under the car I installed an "H" pipe and 2 1/2" SS exhaust all the way to just in front of the rear
axle. With turn downs. And tried that first. Same issues. Loud drone harsh enough that the
car vibrated at some speeds.
I then purchased the muffler to rear exit (SS monte style) 2 1/2" pipes to finish off the system
and put the exhaust exit out from under the car. system works great and drone is all but gone.
Nice exhaust sound at idle and when on the gas. At cruising speeds it sounds almost stock.
Gone are the drone and vibration from before.

If you have similar stories please share.....

Well.. Im having drone issues right now. I run longtubes into 2.5" system with an x pipe and straight thru muffleres just before the axle. Exhaust exits at the rear. No touching anywhere between the exhaust and frame/body and alm hangers are rubber bands so no vibration transfers to the body.

I have now bought some hooker aero chamber mufflers i will try on. Will report back

My hangers are metal but feature rubber between the mount and the pipes. I think your issue could
be the mufflers. I was thinking of going to glass packs but to go in the wrong direction sound wise
would be a wrong choice. Pick your mufflers carefully as full flowing are the most raw when it comes to exhaust note.
Definitely report back with an update....

I think many people when they first go duals and headers end up just running the exhaust to the rear axle maybe because of the cost and hassle of getting tailpipes in there that fit well.
For my Monte I made 4-1/2" exhaust with an H-pipe and have Flowmaster 2 Chamber Race mufflers and it dumped with turndowns before the rear axle but even then it only had a mild drone and having tailpipes seemed out of the question because of the size but I got tired of my neighbor complaining that every time I would come up and down the driveway everything on her walls would shake.
I eventually decided to see if I could mock up something up and decided I could get 4" in there and proceeded to make tailpipes with mandrel bends that will fit in my car.
Not only did the drone go away completely I think it is quieter and to me sounds so much better and apparently my neighbor agrees since I have not heard a complaint since doing it. Plus I love the look on peoples faces when they see 4" tailpipes that go over the axle on a Gbody.

See getting your huge diameter exhaust further back from the muffler made big gains in reduced noise
and calls to the police from neighbors stopped. As far as restriction goes you have none. No worries there.

I sure hope he avoids a rear end collision. It would cost a half million in repair to fix it.
Note the gold statue in the rear package shelf.

Tell me which sounds better?
