Those are not Gbody backing plates for the brakes.

So unless someone spliced on different ends, possible but not probible, it's not a Gbody rear.

Also with adjustible upper arms, they (Abody rear) will "bolt-in". My 78 Cutlass has a stock width 68 12bolt out of a Chevelle under it.

Got any good installed pics?

Time to get out the tape measure!

Real early Abody 60"
Later Abody 62"
Gbody 58"

Remember those are overall length, so it can be a little as 1 inch per side.

Also take a wire brush to the axle tubes, you should be able to find an axle code.

Around the housing, cast part, should be part numbers and date codes.

First I likle to say thank you for all your posts, comments, and knowlegde. After a couple of beers, I got up the nerve to give the axles a good yank with a hub puller and with some fus managed to remove the axles. They do in fact have pressed bearings on them and thought that the 4 bolts only held on the backing plate. Would still like to know what kind of posi I have in there. I'll get the codes off the tubes first chance I get. Again thanks to all and i get some pics up to update on what it all looks like and how the rear disc conversion goes.
