GM Truck Recalls

They just announced that GM must bring them in and fix them. Recall was announced May 27, 2016. GM dragged their feet because Takata filed for bankruptcy so there wasn't any available, and GM claimed that it wasn't a big deal and tried to basically block the recall through legal wrangling. Now, apparently, NHTSA is lighting a fire under GM's azz and making them fix the vehicles.

I got the notice a few years ago about my old POS '08 Silverado & it said they would contact me when they got bags in. Got rid of the truck before they could in '18, replacing it with a '14 K2XX Silverado.
Funny thing, I got all the legal B.S. about the lawsuit & bankruptcy sent to me cause I owned the truck at the time. It claimed I was included in the class action cause I was a current or former owner of a airbag recall vehicle. Haven't heard a word since I got the '14.

This is what the inflators wind up looking like. And I wouldn’t say gm was necessarily trying to fight it, federal law mandates manufacturers must make a recall within I think 30 days of knowing about a safety issue, but it takes months or years to design and safety test the parts, produce and distribute, and the recall instructions, I’ve seen some recalls take over a year to get the parts availability

"The automaker had petitioned the agency four times since 2016 to avoid recalls, contending the air bag inflator canisters have been safe on the road and in testing. But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday denied the petitions, saying the inflators still run the risk of exploding."

It said GM was going to file a Petition for Inconsequentiality to the NHSTA even back when the recall notice was first issued. Go back and read the Recall Description part. GM didn't think it was an issue (like always) right off the bat. Although there's been several deaths because of it since. I guess they figure if they could go long enough, most of the vehicles would rust out or be crushed before they actually had to do something about it. Those pinheads.

I’ll be honest I never bothered to read the article because i figured it was the same as every other recall notice I read at work. Also I was more or less making a general statement in regards to all recalls as opposed to just this one.

GM and other vehicle manufactures always seem to cut corners to save money in todays highly competitive markets, yet we pay more for less, and some have paid with their lives because of this neglect. If I were in charge, GM would be shut down IMMEDIALTY until EVERY last airbag was replaced! I don't care about "what it would cost them" ..anyone that would put a human life over saving a buck is an idiot. Large companies have gotten away with much, because we allow it. You have to start somewhere, and I THINK THE PRESEDENT NEEDS TO BE SET NOW. As mentioned earlier, they delay, postpone, divert, because as hours, weeks months YEARS past, vehicles that are/ were part of the recall, are no longer around due to accidents, ect ect. Don't think for a moment its not financially motivated, for GM to CONTEST this recall is PROOF! Its absolutely detestable, and I would not purchase a new GM product until they became ethically motivated, and others should do the same with their monies if they care about their families and human life in general.
