Ok, that's the cam I've been looking and thinking about since I started looking. I'm sure there are better grinds out there but I want a GM cam in this motor. So the ZZ4 it is.

there are used ZZ4 cams for sale with very little time on them. Guys buy the ZZ4 engine and do upgrades to use them in drag cars. I got my cam with the springs and titanium keepers for $200 and it had almost no time on it.

I would like to find a used one to try. Anyone here have one to parts with?
ZZ4 is a very good cam. I had a home built ZZ4 in my 86 Grand Prix. I had a 700R4 and a 3.73 posi and I drove the car everyday getting 16 mpg around town and just under 21 mpg on the highway. It ran the electronic Qjet and a set of headers and my best time at Milan Dragway was a 13.40 @102.88 mph. It was a very good daily driver and occasional drag weekend runner. Idle was smooth and plenty of vacuum.

My dad's 1985 Trans Am has a 357 SBC with a Tune Port Injection setup. It has Trick Flow heads, but a pretty boring bottom end (I believe 9.0:1 compression). IIRC it has a ZZ4 cam that he installed back in the day. It has a very mild mannered idle, but he says it makes good power all around. If you want came purely for a lumpy idle, that's not the camshaft for you.
