Would swapping GN springs into my 87 GP w/ 305 lower the car at all? I want better handling than what I have now, and roughly 3/4 - 1" drop. I am trying to figure out if GN or s10 springs would be a better choice. If s10 springs are going to ride as crappy as my s10 did (even before 3" drop), then I am going to go with GN springs, regardless if they lower the car any.

Thanks

why not just buy a drop spring for a V-8 car? I can not imagine overloading a V-6 spring will IMPROVE your handling. Try Eibach

Eibach lists the same spring for the GN as they do with any other G body...

here's what I found...

the weight of a GN - 3280

the weight of a v8 Monte SS - 3,385

I'm not sure without scaling the 4 corners where the extra weight is but the 8.5 rear has to be at least few pounds heavier so the front end weight wouldn't be much different...

doesn't surprise me they have just one application for all G-bodies and I ahve not honestly looked at OEM aps ... the GN could very easily even run the same HD springs the V-8 F41 cars run, but the logic of finding a V-6 spring to lower a V-8 car just strikes me as odd. IF you had a GN in the junkyard - I can see stripping as much off it as I could apply to my Cutlass - sure. But if buying new - I think you'll find that Eibach springs are pretty comparible (price wise) to say Moog OEM replacements, but should out perform them .... while achieving the desired drop.

I have the eibachs in my GP and the fronts are nice enough although I have not rated them but I have read that the spring rate is 660. I am not happy with the back eibachs since they have a progression spring rate. I'm looking for a WS6 front end sway bar which will fit a G body and will raise noticeably add to the spring rate For the back springs I'll switch them out to something with a constant rate in the 160 spring rate...

how is the spring rate rated. i have a gp. and not really trying to lower it but stiffin up the ride a bit.

the spring rate is the lbs it takes to compress the spring 1"

Regular gbody spring rate is 346lbs GN/442/MCSS is 420lbs. Moog 5658 is 579lb and normally has a 1/2" lower ride height. I also have the Eibachs with 660lbs which are stiffer than I like. You will notice a difference going to the GN springs but it is still a lil on the soft side by todays standards. Remeber the Gbody era was living room couch soft for the geritol generation. And no swaping to the GN springs all things equal should not drop the car. If you are haveing to buy them I would look at the 5658 cheap not too stiff and a good 1/2" drop. Eibachs should drop an inch but they are expensive and stiff.

hey dog....where did you get the info on the spring rate for the eibachs. I read somewhere that they were 660 but I havn't confirmed that and eibach won't tell you "sh*t" about their springs.....

oh sorry for using your name in vain....lol

I'm running the eibachs, tubulars upper with a solid bushing and afco shocks #7 valved and I don't find it a harsh ride...it's a preference thing...

Fwiw, my old Sport Coupe (originally a turbo 6 car) had a 305 swapped in, and the front sat considerably lower than my current Limited (also a 305).
